About
the Play: "Godspell" is a jubilant
celebration of the Gospel according to Saint Matthew. It is a spiritual
experience to be felt joyously by both the performers and the audience.
Many theatrical devices are used in presenting the teachings of Christ.
These include pantomime, childrens' games, charades, vaudeville antics, the
question-answer technique of minstrel shows, diversified dances complete with a
soft shoe, and songs and music of many colors - folk, ballad, pop, rock, light
musical comedy, and dramatic. It indeed has something for everyone.
"Godspell" was produced through a
special arrangement with Theatre Maximus, 1650 Broadway, New York, New
York 10019.
History -- Fond du Lac Community Theatre
later presented "Godspell"
again, this time in partnership with the University
of Wisconsin - Fond du Lac, in 1997.
Film: Columbia Pictures made "Godspell" into a major motion picture in 1973. It starred Victor Garber as "Jesus," and David Haskell as "John" and "Judas."
