Fond du Lac Community Theatre presented two plays at Marian College's 2007 Heritage Festival of the Arts.  The second play was "The Bear," which was also written by Anton Chekhov.

Reminisce by Matthew Rodenkirch

"We did Chekhov for the Heritage Fest, and I got to fake, well the character was having a heart attack, so I had to fake a heart attack, and that was fun.  Fortunately we didn’t try to do accents, ‘cause I think trying to do Russian accents would have been too hard.  And we did two plays; I remember we did ‘The Bear’ and we did The Proposal.’

And I was in the ‘The Proposal’ and Nate Wessel was in ‘The Bear.’  And I remember how happy I was that he got the role in ‘The Bear,’ because the character he was playing had a page-and-a-half speech, and my longest speech in ‘The Proposal’ was only about half a page, maybe a little more, and just a bugger even at that.  I don’t think I ever would have gotten through the page-and-half that Nathan had to deal with.
