 FdLCT's Award-Winning Plays

History -- Fond du Lac Community Theatre has won several awards for our productions.  They are listed below, in chronological order.

  1. "The Miracle Worker" won our first Wisconsin One-Act Play Festival award in 1964.

  2. "A Majority Of One" won our second Wisconsin One-Act Play Festival award in 1964.

  3. "The Dirty Old Man" won our third Wisconsin One-Act Play Festival award in 1967.

  4. "The Indian Wants The Bronx" won our fourth Wisconsin One-Act Play Festival award in 1970.

  5. "The Zoo Story" not only won our fifth State One-Act Play Festival award competition in 1971, but also won the regional as well, and then went to Western Springs, Illinois and competed in the national competition against the regional winners from all over the country.  The acclaimed actor, Henry Fonda was one of the judges.  "The Zoo Story" was a featured play at the Omaha, Nebraska play festival, where it was performed before Lee Strasberg and his actress wife, Anna.

  6. "The Cage"  put us back at the national competition in 1973.  All of the aforementioned plays were directed by Lorrie Hull.

  7. "Eris," directed by Helen Blumer, won the State (our sixth award) and regional competitions in 1979.

The Dave Jones Scholarship Award

History -- Fond du Lac Community Theatre awards the Dave Jones Scholarship to deserving theatre participants.  This scholarship has been made available by FdLCT since 1979.  It was named after David L. Jones, a long-time member of our organization.  Dave was a dedicated man who always acknowledged and strongly supported the youth involved in our shows.

Award --  Currently the amount awarded is $250 per semester for two semesters/one year, or a total of $500.  Further information can be obtained by calling Therese Burazin at # (920) 235-4875.

Criteria -- Applicants are asked to showcase their involvement in FdLCT's productions.  They must have been involved in at least two FdLCT shows.  Involvement could be in any capacity:

Performing on the stage -- acting, singing, dancing, etc.

Performing music -- directing or playing an instrument in the orchestra, rehearsal pianist, etc.

bullet

Backstage -- set building crew, stage crew, etc.

bullet

Technical -- lighting, sound, special effects, video, etc.

The plaques --  There are two wall plaques hanging in the reception area of the FdLCT  building that are engraved with the scholarship winners' names.  Those winners are also posted below:

  The Exchange Club Book of Deeds Award

History -- The Exchange Club of Fond du Lac presented Fond du Lac Community Theatre with their Book of Golden Deeds award in 1996.  That plaque also hangs in the reception area of our FdLCT building.  The wording is as follows:

The John Theis Memorial Award

History -- This was a one-time scholarship, named in honor of John Theis.  John was a Principal for the Fond du Lac School District and a popular FdLCT member, known for his fine acting in FdLCT productions, such as "Rumors" (1992).  The scholarship was awarded to Todd Louis Whittaker.

  The Reporter Reader's Choice Award

History -- The Fond du Lac Reporter newspaper presented its "Reader's Choice" award to FdLCT three times, in 2004, 2005 and 2006.  Those certificates are also located in our FdLCT building.
