Synopsis:
The original storybook heroines are none-too-happy with the way they’ve been portrayed in today’s pop culture so they’ve tossed their tiaras and have come to life to set the record straight. Forget the princesses you think you know – these royal renegades are here to comically belt out the truth.

SNOW WHITE

Brassy and self-assured. The leader of the princess pack who likes to be in control. Also has a loving, maternal instinct. Aspires to be perfect, but she soon realizes that being perfectly ‘you’ is more important.

CINDERLLA

Perky, quirky, and impish. She’s always enthusiastic, especially when it comes to being a real life princess, but is about to discover that there’s more to being a princess than pretty gowns and shiny glass slippers.

SLEEPING BEAUTY

The perfect comic foil to Snow White. Always the flippant and unpredictable cut-up. She loves to dance (sometimes uncontrollably) and is a fantastic physical comedienne. She enjoys being perfectly and uniquely herself.

BELLE

A smart and witty bookworm from classic French lit who inexplicably speaks and sings with an American accent. She chats with inanimate objects, cleans up after her beast of a husband … and it’s slowly driving her insane.

HUA MULAN

A legendary folk hero of Asian descent from the poem The Ballad of Mulan. She has a good- natured sense of humor while maintaining a respect for her culture. She is excited to come out onstage and, through her heartfelt story, reveal her true self.

THE LITTLE MERMAID

Once innocent and obedient, she’s now rowdy and rebellious. Having regretfully given up her seemingly idyllic life under the sea, she copes with her new reality through inappropriate yet hilarious comedy. She is the life of the party!

POCAHONTAS

Plucky, valiant. She has been homogenized by an entertainment industry willing to distort her true Native-American story just to sell cinema tickets. As she comically mocks her glammed up portrayal in Hollywood cartoons, she is on a journey to restore her authentic, historical self.

THE PRINCESS WHO KISSED THE FROG

Having been left out of the kingdom for decades, this Black princess is here to claim her throne and celebrate inclusivity and diversity in fairy tales. Confident; clever with a turn of phrase, loves a funny pop culture reference. Wonderfully witty; joyous.

RAPUNZEL

American capitalism won’t turn this campy, Mel Brooksian songstress into a damsel in distress. Nein! Brunehildesque, strong, and fun-loving, she’s bent on getting her fair share from those who make bank off fairy tale princesses.

PRINCESS BADROULBADOUR

Originally from the South-Asian-turned-Middle-Eastern Aladdin sagas, this sultan’s daughter has had enough of being secondary in her own tale. Misogyny begone! It’s a whole new world and this independent and puckish princess is taking her story back!

Directorial duo ready to present “Mamma Mia!”

This is an exciting month for longtime FDLCT director team Mary Runde and Maggie Patton, their 35-member cast, and the production team, crew and band. More than two years in the making, Mamma Mia! will finally go up June 23-26, 2022, and tickets are selling fast!

Here we go again!

Julie (Donna), Sue (Rosie), Ian (Sky) and Blair (Sophie) rehearsing on their old set back in 2020.

Originally scheduled for April 2020, the cast of Mamma Mia! were already past the bulk of their rehearsals when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, forcing FDLCT to postpone the show. At that point, Maggie and Mary promised the cast that if the show could resume, everyone could keep their original roles. With very few exceptions, the cast came back—and now, they’re performing with a fresh group of additional cast members!

“Putting the show off for 2 years was rough—and a lot happened in between,” Mary said. “However, despite the hiatus, the venue change, and cast and production team changes, I think we are blessed to have a fabulous group of folks working together to make our vision finally a reality.”

The same actors, now finally on stage and ready to perform!

FDLCT dynamic duo

Maggie Patton, director
Mary Runde, director

This will be the sixth show that Mary and Maggie direct together. They met while working for the Fond du Lac School District and soon developed a friendship. Maggie had already been directing shows at Woodworth and around the district for years, and it wasn’t long before the two decided to take on a show together. Mary remembers: “Our directorial debut was a small show: The Littlest Angel. It was a super sweet show-only 45 minutes-and we only charged $5. It was at that time we realized we finished each other’s sentences….still do.”

Newcomers and old-timers

Ian (Sky) and Cody (Pepper) having just a bit of fun.

This cast is a diverse blend of FDLCT regulars and fresh faces. Mary is excited that the musical and its fantastic soundtrack attracted so many new people to FDLCT. “Cathy Drew is so excited to be part of the cast-it’s her first show, and she auditioned because she loved the movie and the music. I am not sure how we got Ian and John Hawkins. They are both new to our theater group, and are a phenomenal addition. On the other side of the equation are people like Lynn and Blair Moon, who have been active in FDLCT for years.”

Maggie shares, “The coolest part for me is seeing the family members who come together to audition for shows. Mary and I encourage that so families can share something they love with their kids.”

The Mamma Mia! cast working on a dance number.

Mamma Mia! is not just fun songs… though the songs are fun

After encouragement from her son Alex to do a full directorial analysis on the show, Mary shared her take on the story: “It’s the conflict between the 70’s worldview of Donna where life is meant to be lived fully and in the moment, and the worldview of Sophie who has always wondered who her dad is. There are the small lies and the untruths that Donna has always kept secret that are finally resolved. It is a story of a daughter finally understanding her mother’s choices with an adult lens.”

“Or it’s just a bunch of ABBA songs that we can sing along with. Either way, it is going to be a great time for the audience.”

Mamma Mia! will run June 23–26 at the Fond du Lac High School PAC. Learn more and buy tickets here.

Bud Caldwell Dedication

Theatre Family,

Our theatre and the Fond du Lac community lost a bright light with the passing of George “Bud” Caldwell. Some of us had the great honor of working with him, and others were thoroughly entertained as they watched him perform.

In a way to honor, remember, and celebrate Bud we have planned a dedication at the Firehouse on Sunday, October 24 at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to this event which will include stories, music, and a plaque dedication at our building. Bud’s family will be present and it is our hope that our theatre family will attend this event and share stories about Bud. He was a real treasure to our theatre family.

Update for 2019-2020 season ticket holders

Dear Season Ticket Holders,

Fond du Lac Community Theatre (FDLCT) strives to bring quality, live entertainment to the Fond du Lac community and surrounding area; however, we are also committed to the safety of our artists, volunteers, and, of course, our patrons.  As previously communicated, FDLCT was excited to have been successful in rescheduling Mamma Mia, originally planned for April 23-26, 2020, to September 10-13, 2020.

As the situation surrounding COVID-19 has continued to evolve, our response has continued to evolve as well.  While we want our talented cast and crew to be able to showcase their hard work to the masses, we want to ensure we are as safe as possible in doing so and, therefore, have found it necessary to postpone Mamma Mia again.  We are looking forward to being able to present Mamma Mia in June 2021 when, hopefully, concerns surrounding the pandemic will have subsided.

While we anticipate rescheduled performances, we understand June 2021 is still ten months away and our current plans, like everything else in a pandemic, may continue to be subject to change.  Because of this, the Board of Directors has had to make some tough decisions for our organization and our doors will remain closed through the 2020 calendar year.

To avoid additional future adjustments and confusion, tickets for Mamma Mia and previously granted credits for Grease will be rescinded.  We want to sincerely thank the season ticket holders who had already donated the cost of their Grease ticket(s) back to FDLCT.

All season ticket holders for Mamma Mia and season ticket holders who opted for a credit for Grease will have two options:

  • We can refund the cost of your Mamma Mia ticket and Grease credit ($16.00/ticket/show) to you.
  • You can donate the value of your Mamma Mia ticket and Grease credit ($16.00/ticket/show) as a gift to Fond du Lac Community Theatre.  If you choose to do this, you will help support our organization during this time in which we have, quite literally, closed our doors.  We will happily provide you a donation receipt for your tax-deductible gift.

Your next steps:

  • Please fill out the Season Ticket Holders form by Monday, September 7, 2020 to communicate your choice to either receive a refund or make a donation.
  • If we have not heard from you by midnight on Monday, September 7, 2020, we will automatically process a refund.

Further, because of this extended closure, we are likely looking at a condensed 63rd FDLCT Season and will not be selling season ticket packages for 2020-2021.  We recognize that our season ticket holders are some of our most ardent supporters and we do not want to minimize your continued backing of our organization.  In the event we can present shows in the remainder of the season in 2021, we will continue to offer our current season ticket holders the ticket discount they currently enjoy ($4.00/ticket).  Further, season ticket holders will enjoy early access to ticket sales before they go on sale to the general public so you can continue to enjoy the premium seats you already love.  If we have the opportunity to see any shows come to fruition, more information will be communicated to you at that time on how to enjoy these perks.

If you have any questions, we encourage you to message us through Facebook Messenger, email us at fdlctboard@gmail.com or call us at 920.923.2206 (please leave a message with Megan if we do not pick up). We will do our best to get back to you in a timely fashion.

We appreciate your continued kindness, patience, and understanding as we continue to navigate this truly once-in-a-lifetime situation.  The show will go on…just a little later than anticipated.

Sincerely,

Megan Retzleff

Letter to 2019-2020 season ticket holders

Dear Ticket Holder,

Fond du Lac Community Theatre strives to bring quality, live entertainment to the Fond du Lac community and surrounding area; however, we are also committed to the safety of our artists, volunteers, and, of course, our patrons. Because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we have sadly had to postpone or cancel the remainder of our 2019-2020 season which included Mamma Mia, Grease, and Frozen, Jr.

We are thrilled to be able to reschedule Mamma Mia to September 10-13, 2020 at Goodrich Little Theatre. Your ticket will be honored at the corresponding performance of your original ticket. For example, if you have a ticket for Thursday, April 23, it will be honored on Thursday, September 10, 2020. In the event you cannot make the rescheduled date, please contact us directly via one of the methods below and we will re-issue a ticket, offer a donation receipt, or refund your ticket price.

Unfortunately, Grease is cancelled and will not be rescheduled at this time due to a number of issues.

You have three options for the cancelled Grease show:

  1. We can provide you with a credit ($16.00/ticket) towards the cost of your 2020-2021 season ticket package.
  2. We can refund your ticket ($16.00/ticket).
  3. You can donate the value of your ticket ($16.00/ticket) as a gift to Fond du Lac Community Theatre. If you choose to do this, you will help support our organization during this time in which we have, quite literally, closed our doors. We will provide you a donation receipt for your tax-deductible gift. As a thank you for your donation, we will provide you with a voucher for a free cookie and bottle of water at Mamma Mia.

Your next steps:

  • If you would like a refund or would like to donate the value of your tickets, please fill out this form by Friday, April 17, 2020.
  • If you would like a credit you do not need to do anything.
  • If we have not heard from you by midnight on Friday, April 17, 2020, we will provide a credit towards the cost of your 2020-2021 season ticket package.

We will miss you for the remainder of our 2020 season. We look forward to seeing you again for 2020-2021 in which we are excited to present Mamma Mia! (September 2020), 12 Angry Jurors (November 2020), Matilda (April 2021), TBD (June 2021) and Frozen, Jr. (July 2021). We’re still working with our vendors to secure rights/dates for these shows; therefore, there may be additional changes (some things are out of our control). Season Ticket package information for 2020-2021 will be released soon.

We encourage you to message us through Facebook Messenger, email us at fdlctboard@gmail.com or call us at 920.923.2206 (please leave a message with Megan if we do not pick up). We will do our best to get back to you in a timely fashion.

We appreciate your kindness, patience, and understanding as we navigate this truly once-in-a- lifetime situation. The show will go on…just a little later than anticipated.
